Landscape Architect Jeremy Klemic of SWA Group worked with Universal Fiber Optics to develop a unique carpet of fiber optic stars for the courtyard of the Hyatt Regency Hotel in San Diego.
Supported by the team from Universal Fiber Optics, Jeremy was able to create a unique look of sparkling stars from the field of pavers in the court yard.
Multiple 150 watt metal halide illuminators were used. The design team created a system where the 'tails' from both light sources were interwoven so that there were an equal number of “close” bright ends and “distant” dimmer ends from each source. This process provided a more uniform and natural feel to the lighting. A field of a hundred stars was mounted flush to the surface of the pavers to create a smooth unobtrusive look to the pavers.
